“. . . WHEREAS Dr. Verducci has a long and distinguished career in education, including 32 years of service as a teacher, vice principal, principal, and superintendent in seven Bergen County school
districts culminating in his receiving the 2010 Distinguished Service Award from the Bergen County Association of School Administrators; and
WHEREAS Dr. Verducci has continuously improved his knowledge through graduate courses, seminars, and attendance at prestigious universities, including the Oxford University Round Table;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Board of Education strongly and without reservation supports the nomination of Dr. David C. Verducci to be the NJASA 2011 New Jersey Superintendent of the Year and directs the Board Secretary to provide a copy of this resolution to the New Jersey Association of School Administrators.”

“During the time he spent in Fairview, Dr. Verducci was able to move the district successfully through the monitoring process twice, lifting the district out of Level II and into full accreditation. He upgraded all of the district’s curricula and textbooks along with keeping up with all the other routine responsibilities of a school district superintendent.
Twelve years might seem like a long period of time but, surprisingly, the time passed very quickly. From a visit by New Jersey Education Commissioner Mary Fitzgerald to the dedication of the Lincoln School Annex by Bergen County Executive Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Aaron R. Graham, there was always something interesting happening. Dr. Verducci definitely achieved his goal of educating the children of the district for the 21st Century and at the same time inspired the entire staff to take pride in the Fairview Public Schools.”

“Perhaps our biggest accomplishment working together during my tenure as Fairview’s architect was the completion of a new school building that became an early childhood learning center. Dr. Verducci’s vision to convert a neighborhood eyesore into a modem educational facility was the catalyst in creating broad-based community support for future endeavors.
His grasp of the myriad of educational and financial issues facing public schools is unmatched by anyone that I have known in both my career as an architect and as a board member.”

“I have known David Verducci for more than 30 years and consider him to be one of the most remarkable individuals I have ever met. There are many people who are committed, dedicated, and attuned to the needs of people, particularly children, in our society. I can honestly say that I have never met one who is more passionate, dedicated, energetic, and balanced about those children and their education.
My life has been deeply enriched for having him in it. I consider him a gift that was given to me. So might anyone who knows him. I can only say the best things about him. He defines the word ‘friend.’ ”

“Dr. Verducci is a gifted school leader who has served as President of the Bergen County Association of School Administrators. This leadership role is evidence of his ability and his willingness to work with his fellow superintendents and administrators on a wide spectrum of issues to achieve benefits for staff and students. He is committed to implementing innovative programs and enhancing teaching strategies that support the greatest success for students. His leadership has increased public support for local schools.
Dr. Verducci supports professional development of his staff and he recognizes staff members who achieve excellence in their work. He is committed to equity and excellence for all students and he has high expectations for staff and for students. I offer my recommendation of him without reservation.”

“Dr. Verducci is innovative, creative, dynamic, and always has the best interest of the children first. His personal credo, ‘Every child. Every chance. Every day.’ truly defines him as an educator.
Prior to Dr. Verducci’s arrival in River Vale the district had suffered two budget defeats and fell victim to self-doubt after the second defeat. Time was spent dealing with community conflict vs. educational initiatives. Under Dr. Verducci’s leadership, the budget was not only passed his first year – for all five of the years he spent here – resulting in a renewed positive spirit being restored to the district. The community was re-energized and the focus was back on education. This change in culture allowed the schools to further develop the great K-8 experience for its students into an outstanding one.”

“Dr. Verducci has allowed, nurtured, and encouraged innovation and risk-taking on the part of teachers and administrators; this has already resulted in the creation of the truly exceptional educational opportunities for all our students. Significantly, the district has been recognized by the New York Times (front page story, June 13, 2010), WABC News, and Fox News, among others, for its innovative K-12 Pre-engineering Program.
By allowing his teachers and administrators to take center stage with the media, he has fostered both trust and a desire for staff to work harder and ‘think outside the box,’ knowing that they can assume ownership of their curricula and district programs. This has been quite an empowering experience which has motivated administrators, faculty, and, most of all, our students.”

“Dr. Verducci’s teaching skills are outstanding. He organizes, develops, and presents lectures and invited guest spots with skill and feeling. He was, early on in his academic career, invited to teach graduate courses at our Puerto Rico Graduate Center and did so to praise and acclaim; he duplicated this effort on our New York City campus as well. His effective long-term service as a New Jersey school district administrator –principal and superintendent– also attest to and support his excellent leadership qualities.
Dr. Verducci is a personable, dynamic, hard-working individual. His youthful exuberance and dynamic outlook, coupled with his extensive global travels, serve him well in our expanding one-world environment. He’s a great person to be around as well as an outstanding professional from whom to learn.”
